Birch Bark with Rowan Berries in the Rain

It’s showery here this Thanksgiving Monday and looking out of the window, as one does, i was struck by the combination of birch tree trunks and golden birch leaves forming a backdrop to a berry-rich rowan tree that has begun to lose it’s leaves, thus revealing the birch. A gorgeous combination – made all the richer in the subdued light of a rainy day – sunshine rarely makes for the best photographs.

BUT – see the picture below.

… an hour later the sun appeared and the leaves were lit, seemingly from within. I still prefer the original in the more diffuse lighting as I find this a bit “chocolate-boxy” but what do you think?

Cold morning sunlight

Cold sunshine

There were white roofs down the road this morning and a low, bright dawn sunshine illuminating these wild carrot seed-heads. The average day for first, albeit light, snowfall in Montreal is barely a month away.

Summer Rain

Happy God and Song Sparrow

A heavy summer rainstorm was followed by bright sunshine and the Song Sparrow family came out to play, watched over by Happy God.

The Happy Buddha, or Laughing Buddha, is based on a wandering monk who walked throughout ancient China. His likeness is symbolic of joy, mirth and contentment, and it is said that rubbing the head or belly of a Happy Buddha statue brings good luck and fortune.
