Early fall morning in the garden – 2013
Early fall morning in the garden – 2013
Late October afternoon in Molly’s Dell
In spring and late summer/autumn there is a ten minute moment at the end of the day when the setting sun shines at a low angle between houses across the street and illuminates the trees in our garden. It’s hard to capture thIs transient effect, but this is close to it. Goes well with a glass of something.
Kenauk again, and a few years ago. Early September – the sun was rising across the mist-shrouded lake. The disc was still hidden behind the trees on either side of a channel through to the main Lac Papineau and for just a couple of minutes this happened.
A few years ago we spent a fabulous couple of weeks touring Iceland and birding, finding wonderful arctic plants and drinking really expensive beer. This photograph was taken near midnight in the very far north of Iceland just outside Akureyri.
Three years ago a group of Arboretum volunteers created the “Canada 150 Trail” to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the creation of Canada.Quite by chance it was found this year that the Birch Alley that forms part of the trail is directly oriented towards the setting sun for the few days around mid-summer’s day, the Summer Equinox.
Absolutely NO adjustments to the colour saturation was made in preparing these photographs – these colours are what our eyes saw. Well, what oour eyes saw through the clouds of ravenous mosquitoes, that is ;)
Took a moderately early stroll to the Arboretum to see what the low, warm light could do.
A huge magnolia tree outside my office window offered the perfect sight this evening as I went to close down the computer. Thank goodnes for tripods.
We have a stand of ornamental grasses in the garden that we leave through the winter as they have seeds for birds and hollow stems for insects to overwinter in. They will be cut down in a few weeks but this evening the low golden light lit up the seed feathers from within. Beautiful.
On the flatlands west of Montreal looking towards the south on the winter solstice 2019. The sun doesn’t get very high (this was early afternoon) on this important day of the year. Very strange cloud patterns.
