Memory Sunday No. 1

England 2019 – Making friends

Henceforth, as a general editorial rule, the Sunday image will be something I particularly like from times past. Memory Sunday.

These lovely cows lived in a Berkshire field and wandered over to chew the cud with me one sunny afternoon on May 2019 when we last visited England.

Woodpecker Township

We are having to a do a lot of very local walking during these socially distant months – this is just down the road on the other side of the small neighbourhood park. It’s a narrow strip of trees on either side of this seasonal stream and seems very popular with several species of Woodpeckers, especially thr Pileateds, for nesting opportunities.

From the Archives – 1 Feb 20

From the Archives

Some weeks, because the weather has been poor, or the artistic skills of the photographer have not risen to the expected dizzy heights … or for some other reason there are few or no new images to share. A perfect opportunity to delve in the archives …

Spring around here is still two to three months away – so, to cheer us all up as we look out on boundless vistas of cold snow, here is a memory of spring 2014.

  • Camera: NEX-7
  • Taken: 4 April, 2014

St-Ives 2019

Great Ouse River, St-Ives

The Quayside in St-Ives, Cambridgeshire on a cloudy day in May with interesting light and clouds.

The bridge from which the picture was taken is a medieval construction built in 1425, later blown up by Cromwell (a son of the town) before being rebuilt in 1716 … during the intervening years a drawbridge connected the two halves. We have morris-danced on the Quayside in years past.

In other words, this bridge is older than Canada.

River in January

Snow on the water

The confluence of the St-Lawrence and Ouatouais Rivers at Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue early in January with a light snowfall obscuring the Ile-aux-Tortes bridge carrying the Trans-Canada Highway. Cold.

Flatlands #2

Winter Solstice

On the flatlands west of Montreal looking towards the south on the winter solstice 2019. The sun doesn’t get very high (this was early afternoon) on this important day of the year. Very strange cloud patterns.
