Young Hawk

Young Hawk

There’s been a nest of Cooper’s Hawks down the road this spring/summer in a friend’s tree and now the youngsters are out and about starting to make an independent living. This guy has been aorund the garden regularly for several days – much to the very noisy consternation of our many, many Chickadee families.

Good photo. We have a swallow’s nest in the rafters of the arch entering the courtyard. Only ever had house martins before so the sight of their lovely rusty chests and identifying them as swallows was very exciting. 4 youngsters were in the nest yesterday proudly showing off their colouring.

Swallows are good … especially if successfully raining youngsters. All over the world there are fewer and fewer insects for insectivores to feed on and bird populations are falling as a result – you are doing a good job there. Look after them.
