Amazingly mild today – an enormous flock of Am Robins has been flopping around the garden and especially the waterfall all day but not quite floppily enough to scare off the seven or eight Purple Finches that also needed a splash. eBird wanted “additional comments” on the PUFIs as the number is high for the time of year but the flockette have been in our garden and nearby for several days now – fortunately we have photographs (below). Then to add to the fun the first Carolina Wren of the year came to the party.
Interestingly, one of the (at least three) female PUFIs showed a clearly pale orange or buffy throat which none of the others have. Can’t find mention of this in the usual texts … anyone have any thoughts?
