Nineteen

Nineteen

We are expecting a major snow dump later today changing to 10+mm of freezing rain then by tomorrow morning regular rain before the temperature plunges very rapidly back to seasonally arctic levels … consequently, this wildlifer has stayed in front of a warm computer all afternoon.

Nevertheless, a nineteenth bird was added to the patch and circle lists for the year. A neighbour from up the road called to alert me to the presence of a Pileated Woodpecker (aka “one of those big ones with a red head”). Really a relatively common bird around here but now I don’t have to go hunting in the arboretum for it as it was about 100 yards up the road banging seven bells out of an electricity power pole.

So – five days and nineteen birds.
