It’s starting to get cold – a short flurry earlier today and minus 8C tonight … so the seed in the feeders is becoming more important for the resident birds.
Naturally our feeders are up and running – two poles with eight separate food hoopers, tunes, trays etc containing a mixture of appealing goodies are all in place and being used. Very important for data gathering during the “Feederwatch” season.
But that’s not all – we are coordinating the filling of seven feeders at the arboretum from now through to April and will also shortly be signing up to keep feeders at the MBO equally active. It;s probably not essential, birds as a whole manage in the winter, but it does help and it ensures there are places where the birds congregate and sometimes that includes seasonal rarities. Fingers crossed.
