We had an Eastern Phoebe in the garden this morning, two of them actually.
After breakfast we walked down to the lakeshore to check the Purple Martin houses for returning tenants. J saw an overflying female but no sign yet that they are taking up residence. However, we encountered a chap from the boating club who was cleaning out the PUMA house on their land and were able to give him a hand put it up again and also encountered a couple of friends from BPQ/MBO who were looking for PUMAs too so while we had the spare hands we took the opportunity to take down the house that had raised young last year but which was a bit battered – you need several hands for these tall and unwieldy poles. Layers of composted old nests were removed so all is spick and span if any returning birds want to check them out.
