Seeking your ideas and input …

Following the success of the Guide to Birding in the Arboretum that was released a couple of years ago, the final touches are being put to an arboretum trail guide that is planned to be available before the spring. It will be in the form of a PDF or EPUB file plus an accompanying smartphone app.

This guide (which will be free) will introduce all the main, named, trails in the aboretum but concentrates on a self-guided, educational walk of the Main/Orange and the Canada 150 Trails. It will walk with you along these trails, suggesting wayppoints to pause at to show you something interesting about the trees, and flowers and birds you can see along the way.

Linked to the guide there is to be a smartphone app using GPS technology that will aid you in finding each of the informational waypopints and provide you with a few pointers to what’s around you – the fully illustrated guide will give you more.

… and the reason for this advance announcement? Simply to get a feel for what each of you, as visitors to the arboretum, would find most interesting and useful if incorporated in the guide. If you have any suggestions, please email them to me at
