American Tree Sparrow

20160107-006Every winter, one of the tasks we sign up for (because it’s fun, even at -20degC, so long as the sun is shining) is to keep the feeders at the McGill Bird Observatory topped up for the over-wintering Residents. This smart bird is one of a dozen American tree Sparrows that, amongst other birds, were waiting for our arrival.

Summer birds are beautiful but winter birds are the best – old friends at times.
